My work explores how I know who I am. I am connected to my past selves - exactly how is mystery, even to me. Working with my family photographs revealed that my internal narrative of my own life bore little apparent connection to events in the photographs. I felt like a stranger to my own life-story.
We all select what remember and what we forget; but the gaps and the not-knowing can create space for something new to emerge. What I don't know or remember allows for the (re)instruction of myself in the present. My work brings together aspects of past ad present, enfolding one within the other, to make connections that memory alone cannot.
