Loraine Monk

Loraine Monk uses oil, watercolour, egg tempera, print, photography, to create images that explore and realise traces from past histories.

She was a community worker, activist and political researcher before becoming an artist and lecturer.

Using figurative images ad portraits she often uses photographs - her own and old found photographs to search for buried and excluded histories and ideas. Seeking traces and shadows, the work is often connected to a sense of place or identity, having grown up in Kingston she uses oral and visual histories of the area to explore memory, identity, loss and belonging.
