Katalin Szallas

Katalin makes functional stoneware and porcelain vessels thrown on the wheel and fires them in an electric kiln to 1260 C. She builds her decoration using contrasts or asymmetry which the shape of the pot holds together as a whole. She uses lines as decoration which might be random lines, like shadows of tree branches on the ground, or carefully designed architectural lines such as the structure of a bridge or a building. The repetitive clear, neat lines balance the random, playful sliptrailer lines or scratch marks which give rhythm to the decoration.
