Charlotte Piper
My work focuses on the constructed self. I look at how the body acts as container, both as 'protector' and 'keeping in', holding experience and memory. Through drawing and textiles, I explore material and mark-making as metaphors for the body and its psychology.
I start with observational sketches of the body and the world about me, which I then develop into small-scale sculptures and drawings. While I may use paint media, such as watercolour or acrylic, the works remain drawings: they are my visualised thoughts, helping me to explore my identity - who I have been and am becoming.
